My self-perceived lack of weightloss

I try and write positive experiences in my inventory - I find reflecting on positive keeps me in a positive frame of mind.

Monday at the gym I was feeling a little blue (and grumpy as my trainer will tell you).  I was coming down hard on myself for my self-perceived lack of weightloss.  So partway through the suffering ... um - I mean training session, Amanda stopped me.  She reminded me that at my first session just 6 weeks ago, I could not do a situp on the stability ball.  Now I can easily do 3 sets of 12.  I could not do 5 step ups on the bench without breathing hard - now I do 4 sets of 10 while holding 30 lb of weight!! She's right - I have come a long way in a short time.  Sometimes following the road to a goal you get so focused on the end that you forget to turn around and look at how far you have come.

Feeling better but still not great after Amanda's pep-talk, I had a spare half hour (RARE!!!) after our session and went to get some extra cardio.  About 25 minutes in, my mood took a dive as I started to feel fatigued.  While busy coming down hard on myself for my lack of "fitness", the little Shannon on my shoulder spoke up and reminded me that I was into my third hour of demanding physical activity for that day (I had walked 4km that morning already!).   Sometimes those moods have no logic!!!

Call the negative mood bully

Call the negative mood bully what it is. Just a mood... just a little negative voice. Give it a name. I prefer Captain Bring Down:)

Beating yourself up is a bad habit. A learned habit and habitual patterns are more prevalent when we are fatigued.

If you bite your nails, you are more likely to bite them when tired or stressed or worried. negative thinking is no different.

Why not see the exhaustion as a sign of your hard work. A job well done. Not a lack of fitness!

The good news is that you are giving yourself these pep talks before I even get to hear about them. You are learning to silence your inner critic.

This doesn't mean we don't ever hear from the critic, it just means we need to be listening attentively so that we can call for back up.

Way to go calling for backup right when you needed it most!
