Acceptance: A Turning Point For Weight Loss

Search Acceptance means seeing things as they actually are in the present moment. If your body is not the way you want it to be, you may readily acknowledge this fact, but few accept it totally. Most reject themselves and their body as being intolerable, ugly and unacceptable.

This creates attitudes such as “What is wrong with me”, “I can’t stand being like this” and “I can’t handle feeling this way”.

Unfortunately, this denial results in severe inner turmoil and heroic attempts to change, interspersed with feelings of hopelessness, fear and resentment. Attempts to escape this pain cannot bear fruit because the pain comes from within.

To break this vicious cycle, recognize that loving yourself as you currently are is not only OK, but is a requirement for healing. After all, now is the only time you can love yourself.

Do not confuse a poor body with a poor body image. This is covered elsewhere.

Acceptance of what is, is a precondition for healing. Acceptance does not mean that you have given up or that you must tolerate things you do not like or that you should stop trying. It simply means seeing things as they actually are, in the present moment. Acceptance sets aside preconceived notions, mental convictions and self-defeating judgments.

Acceptance is the lens through which you can see the entire picture with complete clarity.
